May the 4th Be With You(Recovery Update)

Happy Star Wars Day!  It’s May 4th. Say it out loud: “May the 4th be with you."

May 4, 2021, is when I finally came home after having been admitted to the hospital on September 25, 2020. The dark side — let's say, a comedy of errors — almost triumphed over my long journey to come home to heal from debilitating neurosurgery. The year outside of facilities has been both challenging and rewarding.

There were falls, visits to the ER, the headaches of home healthcare, the never-ending culling of my possessions, a myriad of emotions and lots of tears. There were firsts: car and plane trips, ride shares. There were the feats that brought me from wheelchair to walker to cane to no mobility aids, to being able to get on the floor and get back up.

And most important, there was the Force: friends and family who stayed with and saw me at my worst, meal trains, companions, donations and prayers. The Force has been and is strong with me.

On May 4, 2022 — today — I have a pre-operative doctor’s appointment. And on May 10 and May 11, I will undergo two surgeries to correct a curvature in my spine that has caused pain and limited my mobility and range of motion severely. I hope that I am already at the worst-case scenario. The surgeries are intended to alleviate pain and poor posture and thus, improve my quality of life.

I ask that the Force will pray, manifest, and think about successful surgery and recovery.

I will communicate about my progress after the second surgery. Thanks in advance for all you have done and continue to do for me. The love reaches to galaxies far, far away.
